Yoga Love, Self Love
By Ashley

Today I did a practice called throat chakra. I love yoga. I love it so much that I got my 200 hr certificate to teach it, which I did, and I know I will again. However, even when I taught, I did a home practice with Adrienne Mishler from Yoga with Adrienne. If you don’t know her and want to start a home practice, I HIGHLY recommend her! Link below!

Our mantra today was to let me speak my truth openly and honestly. I am, by nature, what one might call a clincher. Apparently, I clench my jaw when I am stressed. I do it when I feel like I shouldn’t or can’t say something. I do it a lot when I am asleep when I don’t even know I am doing it. It sucks, and it hurts. My right cheekbone has hurt for years now, and I actually thought I was growing new teeth in my mouth when I discovered I just have protruding bones from all the clenching!

Part of this comes from me being a peacemaker and not wanting to hurt anyone’s feelings, and part comes from former relationships in which I had to hold my tongue…or, in my case…clench my jaw so as not to stir the pot too much. (If you’re curious, you can read more about those in my new book, My Little Love Story. But I digress, moving on.)

This mantra, let me speak my truth openly and honestly, is so incredibly important for someone like me. If you are one of those who say what you feel when you feel it, hats off! If not, and you have hurting cheekbones like myself, for goodness sake, speak your truth! With love, that is, but say it! Because sharing your truth falls into the category of SELF-LOVE. One thing I am learning is that we must care for ourselves and love ourselves so that we may love others better. Thoughts? 🙂
