National Card and Letter Writing Month
By Ashley

April is NATIONAL CARD AND LETTER WRITING MONTH!

As stated in my last post, I have undiagnosed Xinxiangphobia. But, I love cards and think letter writing is a dying art form. Interesting fact, my grandfather was a postman after he served in the Navy. My Grandmother used to send me cards and letters a good bit when I was growing up. She had exquisite hand writing skills and always shared what was going on in her life in her letters. She also always included the time she wrote the letter and would tell me if she got interrupted while writing it and when she returned to finish. She was 99 years old when she passed, so letter writing was the predominant way she communicated when she was younger. I also think it was part of her love language. I have kept many of her letters and am glad I did, preserving a little art, a little history, and a lot of love.

To pay tribute to my grandparents and celebrate this month, I have purchased a box of stationery and plan to send at least two letters a week to people I love. Wish me luck! I can assure you they will not be as detailed as my Grandmother’s, but hopefully, they will bring a little joy to the receiver and pay homage to the lovely forgotten art of the letter.

I also encourage you to sit down, grab a piece of paper and a pen and write your own letter. Don’t forget to include the date and time you wrote it! Happy writing!
