I Believe in Angels By Ashley
During my Senior year of High School, I wrote a term paper trying to prove that angels exist. I knew they appeared a bunch in biblical times and had heard stories of people seeing angels in the modern day. You may or may not be surprised at the number of books about angels appearing to humans in modern times. I’m not sure if my English teacher needed convincing, but I got an A on my paper.
Fast forward 25 years…
It was a dark and stormy night. No, really, it was a dark and stormy night! My friend Susan had been sick, and I had been trying to contact her all day to no avail. I called her sister to see if she had heard from her. She had not and asked if I would check on her. I was already on my way!
After knocking and getting no answer, I let myself into Susan’s house. I found her asleep in her chair, and waking her up was very difficult. She was almost in a catatonic state. I immediately called her sister, and she, worried, was already making the little over an hour’s drive to Susan’s house.
I was able to get Susan talking before her sister got there. I got her to drink water, looked at her meds, and tried desperately to check her blood sugar. I called 911, and they came and checked her out. Her vitals were all ok but said if she got worse, to take her to the hospital. Her sister arrived while they were there. We sat with her for a while, and she was not improving; in fact, she was getting worse. We decided to take her to the ER.
Susan could barely walk, and trying to get her to the car was extremely difficult. Somehow we managed to get her out and onto the sidewalk, but could not get her in the car. As I mentioned, it was a dark and stormy night…rain was pouring, lightning was flashing, it was crazy! I knew we could not do this by ourselves. I lifted a small plea, a prayer. “God, if there were ever a time to send an angel, now would be it. Please send one of your angels. We need help!”
No sooner did the prayer go up that I heard a voice behind me say, “Could you use some help?” I almost jumped out of my socks! I turned around, and there stood a man wearing a baseball uniform. In awe, I said, “Yes, please!”
He was able to put Susan in the car, and we were able to take her to the hospital. As I drove to the hospital, I prayed, “Thank you, God! Just, wow, thank you!”
Susan definitely needed to go to the hospital. Her potassium was dangerously low, which could have been fatal if gone unchecked. Thank goodness we got her there!
And thank goodness for that man! Could it have been some man just getting home from a baseball game? Sure. But I believe it was an angel.
Do you have an angel story? I’d love to hear about it!
