Gratitude
By Ashley

“Are you grumbly hateful or humbly grateful? What’s your attitude? Do you grumble and groan, or let it be known you’re grateful for all God’s done for you?”

If you sang in a church children’s choir growing up, you might recognize those lyrics. My seven-year-old self had no idea just how important those lyrics were and would become! You may be aware there is an entire scientific study on being grateful and how it relates to your happiness and overall well-being.

Now, I don’t know about you, but sometimes I find myself being grumbly and even feeling mean or, dare I say, hateful at times. Face it, life can just get messy! We have the ability right within ourselves to actually change that yucky toxic brain chemistry to a more peaceful, happy one. Just by being thankful! That is very exciting!

You may be asking, how does gratitude actually affect your brain?

Here is a very short YouTube video on the science of gratefulness. It’s only 2 minutes. I recommend giving it a watch!

And, if you are a total nerd (like me) and have the need to know more, here is a much longer, in-depth scientific article about the science of gratitude. Don’t worry though, it’s not written very sciency and has all kinds of ways to practice gratitude and even a meditation you can do. 🙂 It is pretty awesome and one I will revisit!

Neuroscience of Gratitude

Whether you watched the little video or went all-in with the article, I challenge you to make gratitude an intentional part of your day for at least the next week and see what happens.

So thankful for you! Happy Thanksgiving Week!
